Misti Moyer
Book Editor
Polish that story/nonfiction book you created so that readers can't put it down. A good edit keeps your voice and takes the text up a notch.
Line Editing
Does it say what you mean?
Line editing or substantive editing is a deep dive into the text, a step down from developmental editing. This is a narrower view than the big picture of developmental editing, but still focuses on those larger items like paragraphs, chapters, and overall arrangement. This is for those who aren't sure the text as a whole flows well.
Copyediting
Does it flow well and read seamlessly?
Copyediting ensures the text flows well down to the word level. I check for grammar, sentence structure, word choice, consistency, etc. Once copyediting is finished, the book is ready for interior layout followed by a final proofread.
Proofreading
Is it ready for publication?
This is the final step prior to publication or sending to an agent. Proofreading is just a final set of eyes to look at grammar, syntax, and punctuation.
